Apprenticeship Training

Revenues and Welfare Benefits Practitioner Level 4 Apprenticeship

What is this programme?

This is a new apprenticeship designed for people who work in Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit and related fields.

It covers the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours that are expected of someone working in this field. You will learn what you need to know through the course with us, and then you will be independently assessed at the end of the programme.

How long is the programme?

The length of the programme is flexible, depending on your previous experience. It will last a minimum of 12 months. We would expect someone with no prior experience to complete in 18 to 24 months.

Who is eligible for this programme?

If you have no experience in revenues and/or benefits, you will be eligible.

If you have some experience, but are not already qualified in this field and would benefit from additional training, you will be eligible.

You must be employed in revenues and/or benefits with a contract that lasts at least as long as the apprenticeship.

Your employer must agree to you spending 20% of your work time on learning.

How does the programme work?

Your apprenticeship tutor from LWB Training Ltd will guide you in what you need to do. We will adapt the programme to meet the needs of you and your employer. This may consist of training workshops, online learning, assignments, projects, or one-to-one meetings with your mentor.

Some of your learning will be in your workplace, when you undertake new tasks or apply new skills.

How much does the programme cost?

There will be no financial cost to any apprentice.

Your employer will be able to pay for the programme from the apprenticeship levy, a fund that is set aside purely for the provision of apprenticeships. There should not be any extra cost.

The employer’s contribution is your time.

What is the Gateway?

Towards the end of your apprenticeship period, your employer, your mentor and you will agree when you are ready to be entered for End Point Assessment. This is called the Gateway.

You will have to have met the following conditions for this to happen:

  • You all agree that you have the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the assessment
  • You have Maths and English level 2 qualifications (equivalent to GCSE grade C or above)

What is the End Point Assessment?

This will be conducted by an independent assessor. It is made up of three parts:

  • A presentation and question-and-answer session on 5 cases you have completed following the Gateway
  • A project based on the appeal process
  •  A professional discussion about your working behaviours

You will have up to 3 months to complete the End Point Assessment.

There are 3 possible outcomes:

  • Fail—which will mean you have to undertake at least part of the assessment again
  • Pass—which means you have met the required standard
  • Distinction—which means you have exceeded the required standard

Why should we use LWB Training Ltd?

We have the skills and experience required to make sure that you can be completely ready for the End Point Assessment. We have years of experience in training people in revenues and welfare benefits, and we have a comprehensive understanding of all of the apprenticeship requirements.

We will adapt the programme to make sure it meets what you need, while also making sure that your employer’s requirements are met too.

We will do all this within the levy funding available.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my experience whilst learning with LWB Training. Whilst learning Local Taxation, the trainers and mentors taught me in depth a completely new field of work for myself. With a lot of help from them, I managed to successfully complete my qualification and begin a career within the Council."

"I had a positive experience with LWB Training. Throughout my training, the tutor was very helpful and the knowledge has helped me in completing my training. I think that LWB Training’s strong points are that they have a wealth of knowledge of the topics that they are teaching and they are very helpful in providing learning resources for students to do research and gain more knowledge on various topics."
